Los Caños de Meca & Cabo de Trafalgar
Named after the local village Caños de Meca, this extremely popular beach is known for its fine, golden sand and beautiful landscape. Located next to the Trafalgar lighthouse, Playa Caños de Meca is backed by the large expanse of pine trees in La Breña Natural Park.
There are interesting coves and caves to explore in the cliffs, which provide more seclusion for those who want it. The beach is also known for its winds making it very popular with kitesurfers.
There are several reefs nearby great for snorkelling and diving. Although there is no paseo maritimo, the beach is fully-equipped with toilets, showers, changing rooms, flags to signify the state of the sea, lifeguards, around ten restaurants, five chiringuitos and a picnic zone.
Los Caños de Meca's history is related to the Straits of Gibraltar, the Roman Fretus Herculeum and the Arab Boughaz el Tarek.
The Battle of Trafalgar was fought near the coast of Caños de Meca, off the Cape of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. These days there is a great biological (La Vante) and Artisinal market on Saturdays with music, food and drinks, not to mention packed with locals.
